School House Outfitters provides new clothing for children in need in elementary/middle schools in our area. Children are referred by teachers, nurses or counselors and brought to our special facility for their “shopping experience”, with the help of volunteers.
The children each receive a book bag, three outfits, socks, underwear and shoes. They also receive a hygiene kit, school supplies and books. The goal of this program is to strengthen self-confidence and inspire scholastic achievement in children who are economically disadvantaged.
OPY Bear Hugs is given to trauma victims, primarily children by…Rural Metro, City of Yuma Police & Fire Departments, Yuma County Sheriff and other first responders in Yuma County. Established in 1989, more than 400 bears are distributed each year.
OPY Community Support provides support at a local shelter for adults and children who are victims of domestic violence. We provide cleaning supplies, toiletries, books and toys and other items as needed.
This program was initiated in 2005. Four $3,750 scholarships are awarded each year to students seeking occupational degrees or vocational certificates at AWC, either first year or second year students.
Application submissions accepted beginning February 15th and ending March 31st
